What is so special about this viewer?
The "black button" Stereo Realist viewer is one of the later Realist viewers to be produced by the Realist factory.
It is very similar to the earlier "red button" viewer, with the following differences:
Instead of the red with white logo switch button, here we have a
black button with red or white (here) logo
,
The side screws are
oversized
cross-type (vs the smaller one-slot screws),
The electrical connections feature
different screws
than the standard viewer.
Of course, these differences are a matter of appearance only. Is this viewer any better than a standard red-button viewer?
As it turns out,
the lenses in this viewer are "crystal-clear"
which results in a sharper and more contrasty image
.
Only very few of the earlier viewers (maybe one in 50) have such clear optics.
So, what you have here is the best optically Realist viewer with nice appearance that distinguishes it from its more common red-button brother
But that's not all... This particular viewer has been reconditioned and upgraded by myself.
Here is a short summary of my work:
Took apart and
cleaned
every little, piece, including lenses.
Polished
the electrical contacts
Painted
interior white for bright & even illumination
Installed a new concave bright
reflector
Installed
friction feet
Installed an
LED bulb
( value, available at my ebay store)
Adjusted
tension for interocular and focusing
Put together with extra care and a bit of
lubrication
only in key parts
Inspected
and approved as worthy of being called one of the best "DrT" viewers
Viewer comes in original (late type) box
I am even including the original bulb (you can use it if the think the LED bulb is too bright, I do not think so)
